I LOVE the fall! I mean… I really, really LOVE it – the apples, the pumpkins, mums, red and yellow leaves, Halloween, Thanksgiving… all the fall things. Now don’t get me wrong, I do feel a little sad when summer ends and the crazy fall schedule of school and sports begins, but there is nothing better than a cool morning, a cozy sweater and a piping hot cup of pumpkin spice coffee. Yum!
Now that the kids are back in school, Halloween is a hot topic. They are already starting to talk about what costume they want to wear and whether or not grammy and poppy are coming to help us hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters. And this got me thinking about a fun little Halloween gift I could give to friends & family or as a hostess gift leading up to the big day! I wanted to make something that I could give with my Halloween themed seed paper bows that when planted, grow into wildflowers. And so, I came up with the idea to turn a small terra cotta pot into Frankenstein that will grow crazy wildflower hair!
What You’ll Need:
6″ Terra Cotta Pot
Green, Black, White and Orange Acrylic Paint + a Matte Clear Spray Paint to Seal your project
Paint Brushes
Paper Shopping Bag
Scissors / Pencil
Soil (not pictured below)
That’s Wrapped Seed Paper Bow and Planting Instructions (Begonia Seed Paper Flower Bows 3.5h X 3.5w – Etsy)
Instructions: Wipe the pot with a dry cloth or paper towel to ensure there is no dust or debris. Paint the entire pot green with a minimum of two coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry for a few hours before applying the next one. Using the image below as inspiration, paint a Frankenstein face on the pot and allow to dry. Spray one coat of the Matte Clear seal paint. Fill the pot 3/4 full with soil. Using the brown paper bag, cut out a piece of paper that is 3″ wide x 25″ long (essentially from one end of the bag to the other). Use scissors to create a bit of a scalloped look on the edges of the paper. I also used a Whole Foods Paper Bag which had some green on it that I thought added a little extra pizazz to the Frankenstein theme! Wrap the vase with the cut piece of paper and connect with a small piece of tape. Stick the That’s Wrapped seed paper bow on top with the enclosed “A Gift for You” card that has the planting instructions for your Frankenstein Vase recipient. And that’s it!
It’s a fun way to say “thank you” or “thinking of you” this Halloween Season.
That’s Wrapped!
xoxo,
